This Harding College animated short defines the profit motive and dramatizes the part it has played in the economic development of America. It stresses the need for continued industrial profits if economic vitality is to endure. The film stars Freddie Fudsie, a lazy soap maker, who just wants to go fishing. He invents bar soap, makes some money, and is about to retire in peace and quiet then the sexy female Profit Motive walks by and Freddie, who suddenly needs more money to win her affection, never sees a fishing hole again!
John Sutherland worked as a assistant director for Disney before opening John Sutherland Productions in 1944 with the encouragement of Walt Disney. They specialized in writing and producing animation/live-action films and supportive print material during the remainder of the war years. Soon thereafter, Sutherland began turning out animated industrial and propaganda films and was a place many animators went during periods of inactivity at the other animation studios during the 40s and 50s. | |
